The Company:
Established in 1963, nationally recognized as a premier supplier of precision machined components and assemblies.
The Challenge:
To improve production cycle time for gun site drilling, tapping, and deburring processes. The project required the design and manufacturing of an advanced production machine for cellularization of components and JIT manufacturing. The machine needed to automate three processes and reduce part cycle time by 50% including auto loading of single piece parts and automatic unloading of the finished part. The machine needed to hold a hole placement tolerance of ±.0005. The machine had to be easy to use and meet all OSHA safety requirements.
The Solution:
- Designed and manufactured an advanced manufacturing machine solution by collaborating with company engineering manager, engineers and J.M. Grimstad engineering.
- The final machine design used a practical engineering approach by collectively understanding the needs of the customer and the current production line processes.
- The RDR Services successful project implementation improved the safety, efficiency, and costs of manufacturing for the customer.
RDR Services team utilized solid works 3D solid modeling to provide visualization for custom input and approval.
RDR Services turned concept into reality and once design concept was approved, implemented a controls implementation and testing program.
Customer participated in final test and approval phase to bring machine to completion.
